Walnuts vs. North Kildare: Sunshine in the 'Nure.

On a sun-drenched evening with temperatures soaring to 28°C, the Walnuts welcomed North Kildare to Terenure College to renew our annual rivalry.

Bowling first in Mediterranean-like conditions, the Walnuts applied early pressure with disciplined spells from Colin, Eddie, Andrew, Damian, Jack, and Brian — the latter four each claiming a wicket to keep the visitors firmly in check. Captain Gerry led by example, marshalling the field with sharp focus and ensuring intensity and energy were maintained throughout the innings.

The Walnuts also shone in the field, with some sharp stops and alert play throughout the innings. Cyril was always alert at mid-wicket, cutting off some quick singles, while Adam patrolled the long-on boundary with calm authority, saving valuable runs and keeping the energy high.  However, North Kildare’s middle order accelerated the score in their final 10 overs , scoring at eight runs an over and setting an imposing target of 130.

In reply, the Walnuts got off to a brisk start with openers Brian (22) and Jack (10) finding the boundary early. Liam impressed with a composed 19 against North Kildare’s most dangerous bowlers, while Damian chipped in with a quick-fire 12. Despite their efforts, the Walnuts came up short, falling 28 runs shy as North Kildare claimed the honours.

A big thank you to Alex and Eddie for the post-match pizza, and special credit to stand-in groundsman Eddie for producing a top-class pitch which was resplendent in the D6W summer heat.

Congratulations to North Kildare on the win — we look forward to renewing hostilities again in 2026!
