Walnuts Turn Up the Heat in Victory Over Leinster
On the warmest day of the year so far, Leinster CC visited Terenure College for our 3rd home match of the season. The pitch, immaculate thanks to Philip’s efforts, gleamed in the late evening sunshine, with the historic college towers providing a spectacular backdrop to a night dominated by the Walnuts.
Bowling first, we were sharp and purposeful from the outset. Eddie, Alex (who claimed a wicket for the second week running), and Jan led the attack with distinction, Jan’s lively spell capped by a memorable dismissal that sent a Leinster middle stump cartwheeling.
Mike and Cyril contributed two outstanding run-outs — Mike’s pinpoint throw from fine leg crashing into the stumps — while Arsenal fan Paddy, in his final domestic appearance of the season, delivered another performance of athletic brilliance behind the stumps that even David Raya would have admired.
The modest target of 85 was chased down with assurance. Openers Jan and Colin both posted confident 20s before Jack saw us home with a composed unbeaten 20, securing our second win of the season and skipper Gerry with victory in his debut match as captain.
Afterwards, both teams enjoyed well-earned pizzas in the clubhouse, courtesy of Brian and Jan, as man-of-the-match honours went to Jan and Colin. The evening also marked our final game in the Terenure RFC bar ahead of its extensive renovations — Cyril’s van now stands ready!
It was another enjoyable clash with our Rathmines-based friends, and we look forward to renewing the rivalry — home and away — in 2026.
