Arthur's Knights @ Terenure College June 25th 2021
Firstly, as we always do, we would like to thank Arthur's Knights for a highly enjoyable, if somewhat damp, evening at Terenure College.
The format of the game was the standard 20 overs of 6 balls.
The Knights batted first and the Walnuts stood up to be counted for the second week in a row in the shadow of the Walnut tree. Excellent bowling from Eddie and Philip started the ball rolling, with Eddie taking the first wicket, which with a snick of the bat was edged and was superbly taken by the wicketkeeper Tom D. Mike and Andrew followed suit, giving up very few, and then Colin took his second wicket in 2 weeks when Henry quite fortuitiously (or unfortunately - whichever side you were on) hit his own wicket. When the 10th over was played Mike and Tom swapped places, and for the 2nd time in the game the wicketkeeper took a catch, this time nicely taken by Mike on a pop up of Sean's bowling. Tom D (with just 1 run conceded of his two overs) and Josh kept the pressure on, and the score was just 62 of 17 overs. A couple of real crackers in the final stretch from the Knights made a contest of it, with Dave "WOOOO" Bursey and Tim Millman hitting the Walnuts all around the ground and with final tally of 93 left the Walnuts 94 to win.
Mike and Brian opened the batting for the Walnuts, with the captain getting to 19 on his second game on the trot, before getting beaten by an unplayable delivery. Damian and Josh took up the innings with the former getting his 20 (with a six in the mix), and the latter getting the maximum 25 (with 2 sixes). The play of the game saw the vice captain depart with a fantastic throw by Paul Fry for a run out. A lovely knock by Sean brought us to within touching distance, and the Walnuts came out victors and the shield was retained, with a few balls to spare.
The spread afterwards was fabulous by Sean and Colin, and the speeches were touching and meaningful. A moments applause for the late great Phylis Dunne (wife of the late Arthur Dunne and mother of the current Knight Gavan) was a lovely gesture. MOTM awards were presented to Josh (Walnuts) and Tim (for the Knights) by Brian, and to Damian (Walnuts) from the Knights captain Frank.
Record for the Walnuts is now 2-1. Roll on Parkmore in the Rathgar sun.
