Walnuts Win under the Tree.

Walnut Taverners Storm Past Rathgar Ramblers

The Rathgar Ramblers were the visitors to Terenure on a blustery evening under the walnut tree.

As the last remnants of Storm Lillian blew across the field, the Walnuts produced a hurricane of their own in defeating the Ramblers by 5 wickets with several overs to spare. Despite a valiant effort from the visitors, the Walnuts' disciplined bowling and powerful hitting proved too much to handle for our visitors.

Rathgar struggled with the pace of the pitch and struggled to reach a total of 81. Superb bowling from Gourang (1=5), Liam (1-11) whilst grandfather and grandson combo, Phillip and Adam also took a wicket apiece. A sharp run-out by Cyril at midwicket further hampered the Ramblers' progress.

In reply, the Walnuts’ batting lineup demonstrated their complete range of firepower.

Liam smashed a cultured 20, and Gerry hit a powerful maximum full of 6s and 4s, adding to his incredible summer at the crease. Gerry’s ability to capitalise on anything short and wide is unparalleled, as demonstrated by his impressive run-scoring feats this summer

Mark's solid innings at number four provided the necessary stability for the big hitters to express themselves at the other end. With overs to spare, Captain Garret and Tom saw the Walnuts home and claim a third victory in a row.

Man of the match was Liam for his all-round efforts. Thanks to Eddie and Damian for the catering and as always sincere thanks to Phillip for his pitch preparation, made all the more difficult this week thanks to another big hitter - Storm Lillian.
