MILAN.

Trip to Milan 2008

14 Walnuts travelled over to the plains of Lombardy to play against Milan CC. The match took place in the JFK Stadium in the city. The JFK Stadium is a Baseball Stadium that was built just after the end of the second world war. Milan Cc had the use of this ground and had placed a Mat close to the Baseball “Diamond” In sweltering heat Milan Cc took us apart led by ex pat Irishman David Sweetman who is their club president. Trevor did us all proud with a score of 36. He was our opening batsman and stayed in until the last over. A superb feat given the fact that their bowling was exceptional and also it was in nearly 40 degrees heat.

Our second match was against the wonderful Idle CC at the radish ground in lodi which is about 30 or so kilometres south of Milano. Captained by the great Giovanni Torti, Idle CC is one of the nicest clubs around. The setting there was inspirational. Surrounded by a maize field on 3 sides and a flowing river on the remaining side it oozed rural tranquillity and Italian splendour. Giovanni and Co were fabulous hosts which took away the pain of another loss on the playing field!! Trevor again was out top scorer on this trip putting up 29. This was a fabulous trip in a fantastic part of the world and making great friendships along the way. We had time to play Golf on the shores of Lake Maggiore and also to travel up lake Como in our few days spent in Milan.
