Walnuts survive in Druid's Glen

Greystones @ Druid's Glen June 2nd 2022

On an overcast evening in County Wicklow, the Walnut Taverners claimed their first win of the season against our very gracious hosts, Greystones CC.

The Walnuts were only able to field 7 players so with the assistance of Greystones four guests made their Walnut debuts.

Batting first the Walnuts hit a score of 104 with Liam chipping in with a crucial 20 not out. Guest player Reece also hit a brisk 20 as the away team just about mustered a par score.

The Greystones openers both hit rapid 20s as the home side appeared to be cruising to victory.  But precise line and length bowling by Liam, Reece, Frank, Gerry and Damian strangled the Greystones innings, despite a swashbuckling 20 from Greystones middle order batsman Peter.

A quick mention of Gerry who claimed his maiden wicket with an excellent off stump line.

Guest players Reece and Nick also claimed wickets, with Reece taking a catch in the deep off his son Luke to seal victory in the 18th over for the Terenure side.

Many thanks to Reece, Luke, John and Nick for guesting for the Walnuts, and to Greystones captain Dave Kavanagh for his recruitment skills.  Special mention also to Frank and Liam who ably assisted stand in captain Colin in his first match as Walnut Taverners skipper.

Afterwards both teams celebrated a great game in a local hostelry. Many thanks to Greystones for supplying much needed pizzas and we look forward to welcoming Greystones to Terenure next month.
