Merrion were the visitors to Terenure as the 2024 cricket season entered its final month.
Merrion batted first under the threat of rain with the Ballsbridge side making their first appearance next to the walnut tree in many a year.
From the outset the Merrion openers scored with regulative ease. Gerry picked up two wickets to check their pace while Gourang also caused Merrion plenty of problems as the Walnuts restricted Merrion to 124.
In reply the Walnuts were out of the blocks quicker than Noah Lyles in the Olympics 100m final with Gourang hit 17 and Colin 20. Gerry followed up with a rapid 20 as the Walnuts made light work of the Merrion bowlers.
Tom, Andrew and John batted with great intelligence and nous to see the Walnuts home with 3 overs to spare, and sealing a famous victory in D6W.
Many thanks to Colin and Garret for the catering and congratulations to Tom and Gerry (not the cartoon) for their respective man of the match awards.
