Walnuts Win under the Tree.

A somewhat warm, dryish evening welcomed all for the return fixture against Leinster. We were without our captain and Eddie stepped up to fill the role.

We batted first and due to heavy traffic (off the field), our opening batsmen were held up. Not to worry, Philip and Damian padded up. Unfortunately, we coughed up a few too many early wickets; down to catches and some strong bowling from Leinster.

But the Walnut's spirit is not cracked that easily, Gerry, Liam and Peader restored transmission. Leinster came back bowling Liam and shortly followed by Andrew having to leave the field injured (an overstretched hammer). Enter Cyril and Alex who with an unorthodox technique successfully navigated the strong Leinster bowling to put on 24 runs in the dying overs, Alex hitting 2 boundaries to boot. Leaving Leinster with a target of 108


In reply Leinster started off confidently with Trevor and Fegal doing well but Gourang took Fergal's wicket caught and bowled and then Eddie caught Trevor off a clever ball from Damian. Leinster added to a strong batting order with two 20+ from Josh and Richard. Again the Walnuts fought back with 3 wickets coming from Liam (1) and Eddie (2) Eddie's 1st caught by a diving catch from Tom D. Jack also took a fine wicket to put a stop to Leinster's advances. It was not over yet as the Walnuts needed to close it out and it came down to 4 required off the last ball having just given 2 wides. Leinster gave it a wallop but only made 2 off it - A Walnuts WIN.
