Swords @ Terenure College , July 10th 2026
The Walnut Taverners welcomed Swords CC to the south side for the inaugural fixture between the two clubs. What followed was a thoroughly enjoyable evening of midsummer cricket, played in the very best of spirits and showcasing fantastic camaraderie from the first ball to the last.
Having won the toss, Captain Gerry elected to bat first on a well-prepared track. The Walnuts set about building a competitive total of 117, anchored by steady, valuable contributions right through the batting order:
Gourang, Graham, Gerry, and Colin all worked hard to reach double figures, keeping the scoreboard ticking over.
Josh provided the fireworks, anchoring the innings with a powerful, unbeaten 20 to push the hosts to a defendable score.
The Swords bowling unit proved highly disciplined, particularly their spin department. The visitors deployed a pair of impressive, crafty young leg-spinners who found remarkable turn on the Terenure surface, consistently asking tough questions of the Terenure batsmen.
In reply, Swords paced their chase with composure and tactical maturity. Despite some sharp spells from the home side, the visitors reached their target with three overs to spare.
While the Walnuts' bowlers fought valiantly—with Graham, Gerry, and Gourang each picking up a well-deserved wicket—Swords' batting depth ultimately proved too strong on the night.
Congratulations to Pado for an outstanding, all-round performance that kept the Walnuts competitive throughout.
A special word of thanks to Brian and Gerry for their hard work in preparing an excellent deck for play.
And much appreciation to Gourang and Colin for organizing the post-match pizzas— enjoyed by both squads.
Finally, the Walnuts extend their sincere thanks to everyone at Swords CC for battling the notorious rush-hour traffic to make the journey south of the Liffey. It was a fantastic occasion played with superb sportsmanship, and we eagerly look forward to the return fixture and many more great battles in the years ahead.
