Sun-Kissed Nuts Deliver Performance for the Ages at Fast Walnut Oval

​The Walnut Taverners hosted Merrion at the Walnut Oval in glorious sunshine, setting a formidable benchmark before bowling their way to a convincing victory. Batting first on a lightning-fast outfield, the Taverners racked up a record-breaking 183 for 0 before restricting Merrion to 122 for 6 in reply.

​The relentless start from the top order set the tone for an absolute boundary bonanza, allowing the entire lineup to swing freely. In a remarkable display of team depth, seven of the nine batters reached 20 not out, with Garret, Paddo, Mike, Josh, Gourang, Gerry, Adam, Ankit, and Andrew combining for a probable club-record 27 boundaries—including 7 that cleared the rope clean.

​Merrion chased in great spirits and put on a show of their own, striking an impressive 14 boundaries. Roger led the charge, smashing three quickfire sixes. However, the Walnut attack took no chances. Josh and Alex picked up a wicket apiece, while Andrew celebrated his return from injury by taking a wicket on his third ball. Debutant Ankit earned Walnut Man of the Match honors for his rapid maximum and an exceptionally tight spell of 2 overs for just 3 runs. Sean proved particularly ruthless, taking an unsympathetic 3 wickets in 2 overs to earn Merrion’s Man of the Match award—a performance he will surely drop casually, or abruptly, into conversation the next time you see him.

The afternoon was capped off with fantastic post-match hospitality, thanks to Adam and Damo’s wonderful pizzas. Played in brilliant sunshine and great camaraderie, it was a truly unforgettable outing for the sun-kissed Nuts.
